Mugher Cement Factory seeks production increase

Ethiopia’s Mugher Cement Factory will boost production to increase its share of the market, according to Takele Uma, minister of mines and petroleum. The minister stated that the state-owned cement factory’s current production volumes are disproportionate compared to the abundant natural resources in the area. Therefore, efforts will be made to improve production capacity and increase its market share above 25 per cent.

A shortage of foreign currency is affecting the operations of Ethiopia-based Mugher Cement, according to Akalu Gebrehiwot, the company’s general manager. The company requires around US$3m annually for the procurement of spare parts for its cement plants. The Mugher cement project has replaced heavy fuel oil with coal at its 5000tpd plant. "The replacement was crucial to increase quality, reduce production delay and supply energy on a regular basis," said Project Manager Engineer, Mehari Alemu. "
